Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection: Complete Pokémon TCG Guide

The Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection brings together two legendary Fire-type Pokémon in one of the most recognizable TAG TEAM products from the Pokémon TCG era.

Released on November 1, 2021, this premium collection features a special gold foil Reshiram & Charizard-GX, an oversized version of the same card, and 10 Pokémon TCG booster packs. The collection also includes a Pokémon TCG Online code card. 

For collectors, the centerpiece is the gold Reshiram & Charizard-GX card. For fans of Charizard, Reshiram, and TAG TEAM cards, the collection offers a memorable combination of display pieces and sealed booster packs.

What Is the Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection?

The Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection is a special Pokémon TCG collection built around the TAG TEAM pairing of Reshiram and Charizard.

The product was released as a limited retail collection, with the North American release being exclusive to Walmart stores. The collection’s featured gold card is a special version of Reshiram & Charizard-GX associated with the Japanese TAG All Stars subset. 

• Oversized card: 1
• Booster packs: 10

The product is especially notable because it arrived during the Sword & Shield era but featured a Sun & Moon-era TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX card. 

What Is Included in the Collection?

The product has a relatively simple lineup compared with some newer premium collections.

Inside the Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection, collectors receive:

• 1 gold foil Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection
• 1 oversized foil Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection
• 10 Pokémon TCG booster packs
• 1 Pokémon TCG Online code card

Pokémon’s official product page confirms all four components. 

The combination of a fixed premium card and randomized booster packs gives the product two different collecting experiences.

The gold promo provides a guaranteed centerpiece, while the booster packs offer the excitement of discovering additional cards.

Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection

The main attraction is the Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection TAG TEAM card.

TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX were designed around two Pokémon working together on a single card. Reshiram and Charizard make a natural pairing because both are strongly associated with Fire-type attacks.

The gold version included in this Premium Collection gives the familiar TAG TEAM a distinctive premium treatment.

The card is identified as SM247, making it part of the Black Star Promo series rather than the regular numbering of the Unbroken Bonds expansion. 

The Gold Foil Treatment

The featured card is a gold foil version of Reshiram & Charizard-GX.

This treatment gives the card a noticeably different appearance from the regular Reshiram & Charizard-GX cards found in the Pokémon TCG.

For collectors, the gold design is one of the defining characteristics of this Premium Collection.

It also gives the product a clear centerpiece that can be displayed separately from the booster packs.

The Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection TAG TEAM

The original Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection appeared in Sun & Moon—Unbroken Bonds.

The official Pokémon card checklist lists Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection among the expansion’s higher-rarity cards. 

The TAG TEAM features attacks including:

• Outrage
• Flare Strike
• Double Blaze-GX

The official Premium Collection description highlights the powerful nature of the card, including its GX attack and Fire Energy requirements. 

Outrage Attack

The Outrage attack becomes stronger as the TAG TEAM takes damage.

This is a fitting design for a Pokémon pairing built around endurance and retaliation.

The mechanic encourages the card to become more threatening after taking damage, creating an interesting relationship between its remaining HP and attack power.

Flare Strike

Reshiram & Charizard-GX also has Flare Strike, a powerful Fire-based attack that deals 230 damage.

However, the attack comes with a drawback: the Pokémon cannot use Flare Strike during the player’s next turn. 

This illustrates the design philosophy behind many powerful Pokémon-GX attacks, where significant damage comes with a strategic limitation.

Double Blaze-GX

The GX attack is Double Blaze-GX.

With three Fire Energy attached, the attack does 200 damage. If at least three additional Fire Energy are attached, it does another 100 damage.

The official Pokémon description also notes that the additional damage is not affected by effects on the opponent’s Active Pokémon. 

This makes Double Blaze-GX one of the defining features of the card.

The Oversized Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection

The collection also includes an oversized foil Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection card.

Unlike the standard-size card, the oversized version is intended primarily for display.

The larger format makes it possible to showcase the artwork without using a standard card sleeve or binder page.

Pokémon specifically describes the oversized card as suitable for display. 

Display ideas

Collectors can display the oversized card:

• On a dedicated card stand
• Beside other jumbo Pokémon cards
• With the standard gold promo
• Alongside other TAG TEAM products
• As part of a Charizard collection

The oversized card also helps distinguish this product from ordinary booster-focused releases.

10 Pokémon TCG Booster Packs

The Premium Collection contains 10 Pokémon TCG booster packs. 

This gives the product a significant opening component.

Unlike the fixed Reshiram & Charizard-GX cards, the contents of these packs are randomized.

Depending on the packs included in a particular product, collectors may discover cards from different Pokémon TCG expansions.

The booster packs can therefore add cards to a collection beyond the featured TAG TEAM.

Why the Booster Packs Matter

The 10 packs provide an additional reason to open the product.

Collectors receive both:

A guaranteed centerpiece

The gold Reshiram & Charizard-GX is fixed in the collection.

Randomized discoveries

The booster packs provide opportunities to find cards from their respective expansions.

This combination makes the Premium Collection different from a product containing only a promo card.

Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection for Charizard Collectors

Charizard is one of the most recognizable Pokémon in the entire TCG.

Its appearance alongside Reshiram creates a particularly distinctive card for Charizard collectors.

The Premium Collection provides several ways to showcase the pairing:

• Gold Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection
• Oversized Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection
• TAG TEAM artwork
• Fire-themed design
• 10 additional booster packs

For collectors building a Charizard-focused collection, the gold promo provides another distinct version of Charizard to explore.

Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection Collectors

Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection also receives an important spotlight in the collection.

As a Legendary Pokémon from the Unova region, Reshiram has appeared across multiple Pokémon TCG products and expansions.

The TAG TEAM pairing allows collectors to see Reshiram in a different role, sharing the card with Charizard rather than appearing alone.

This makes the product relevant to both Charizard and Reshiram collections.

The TAG TEAM Era

The Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection is closely connected to the TAG TEAM period of the Pokémon TCG.

TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX introduced cards featuring two Pokémon working together.

Other well-known TAG TEAM cards included combinations such as:

• Pikachu & Zekrom-GX
• Mewtwo & Mew-GX
• Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX
• Lucario & Melmetal-GX
• Reshiram & Charizard-GX

The Reshiram & Charizard pairing is particularly recognizable because it combines two powerful Fire-associated Pokémon.

Premium Collection vs. Charizard & Reshriam GX Premium Collection Figure Collection

The Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection should not be confused with the earlier Reshiram & Charizard-GX Figure Collection released in 2019.

The two products have different contents.

Feature	Premium Collection	Figure Collection
Release	2021	2019
Reshiram & Charizard-GX	Gold foil promo	Full-art foil promo
Oversized card	Yes	Yes
Booster packs	10	4
Figure	No	Yes
Code card	Yes	Yes

The Figure Collection includes a Reshiram and Charizard figure and four booster packs, while the later Premium Collection focuses on the gold promo and ten booster packs. 

This distinction is important for collectors looking for a specific version of the Reshiram & Charizard-GX pairing.

Premium Collection vs. Charizard-GX Premium Collection

There is also an older Charizard-GX Premium Collection from 2017.

That product features a different Charizard-GX promo, Charmander, Charmeleon, a Charizard pin, a coin, six booster packs, and an oversized Charizard-GX card.

The Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection is therefore a different product with a different card design and a TAG TEAM focus.

Why Collect the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection?

The product combines several recognizable elements of the Pokémon TCG.

A gold TAG TEAM promo

The gold Reshiram & Charizard-GX is the centerpiece of the collection.

An oversized display card

The jumbo version provides a larger display piece.

Ten booster packs

The product offers a substantial pack-opening experience alongside its fixed cards.

Charizard and Reshiram

Two well-known Pokémon share the same TAG TEAM card.

Sword & Shield-era release

Although the featured card comes from the Sun & Moon/TAG TEAM generation, the Premium Collection itself was released in 2021 during the Sword & Shield era. 

What Makes the Gold Promo Different?

The gold promo is the feature that most clearly distinguishes this Premium Collection.

It is not simply the standard Reshiram & Charizard-GX card packaged again.

The product introduces a special gold version that was associated with the Japanese TAG All Stars subset and released internationally through this collection. 

For collectors, this makes the product relevant to anyone building a collection of:

• Gold Pokémon cards
• TAG TEAM cards
• Reshiram cards
• Charizard cards
• Sun & Moon promos
• Pokémon premium collections

Is the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection Good for a Master Set?

It depends on the collection being built.

For a Reshiram & Charizard-GX collection, the product provides a special promo and oversized version.

For a broader Charizard master collection, it adds another distinct Charizard card.

For a TAG TEAM collection, the product provides the gold SM247 promo.

However, opening the 10 booster packs will not guarantee any particular cards.

Collectors building a specific master set may need to purchase individual cards separately to complete missing entries.
