Pokémon TCG Evolving Skies Booster Box: Complete Guide

The Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies Booster Box is one of the standout sealed products from the Sword & Shield era. Released on August 27, 2021, the expansion combines powerful Pokémon V and VMAX with a huge selection of Eevee Evolutions, Dragon-type Pokémon, and popular characters from across the Pokémon world.

At the center of the set are some of the most recognizable Pokémon cards from the Sword & Shield era, including Rayquaza VMAX, Umbreon VMAX, Sylveon VMAX, Espeon VMAX, Glaceon VMAX, Leafeon VMAX, and Dragonite V. The official card checklist extends to 203 cards before the additional higher-rarity versions, giving collectors a large set to explore.

For collectors, players, and sealed-product enthusiasts, an Evolving Skies Booster Box offers 36 opportunities to discover cards from one of the most memorable expansions of the Sword & Shield Series.

What Is an Evolving Skies Booster Box?

A Pokémon TCG Evolving Skies Booster Box is a sealed display box containing 36 Evolving Skies booster packs.

Each booster pack from this era contains 10 game cards, plus an Energy card and a code card for Pokémon TCG Online/its digital successor depending on the original product configuration. Pokémon Support explains that pre-Scarlet & Violet booster packs contain 10 game cards, with at least one rare or higher card among the three foil cards.

The booster box format is designed primarily for opening packs and collecting cards from the expansion.

Evolving Skies Booster Box contents

A standard booster box contains:

• 36 Evolving Skies Booster Box
• 10 game cards per booster pack
• Energy cards
• Randomized card contents
• Cards from the Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies expansion

There are no guaranteed individual chase cards inside a booster box. Pokémon states that booster contents are randomly packed and that specific Pokémon or card types cannot be guaranteed in an individual pack.

What Makes Evolving Skies Booster Box Special?

The identity of EEvolving Skies Booster Box comes from two major themes: Eevee Evolutions and Dragon-type Pokémon.

The expansion gives several Eevee Evolutions powerful V and VMAX cards while also featuring Pokémon such as Rayquaza, Dragonite, Duraludon, Noivern, and Regidrago.

The official card list includes a broad selection of Pokémon V and VMAX, along with full-art and higher-rarity versions.

This combination gives the set a distinctive character within the Sword & Shield Series.

Rayquaza VMAX: A Major Evolving Skies Highlight

One of the most recognizable cards in the expansion is Rayquaza VMAX.

Rayquaza VMAX has 320 HP and features the Ability Azure Pulse, which allows the player to discard their hand and draw three cards once during their turn.

Its main attack, Max Burst, starts at 20 damage and can increase by 80 damage for each basic Fire or Lightning Energy discarded from Rayquaza VMAX.

The official Pokémon strategy article also highlighted Rayquaza VMAX as one of the expansion’s major cards, particularly because of the damage potential of Max Burst.

Rayquaza VMAX collector appeal

Rayquaza is one of Pokémon’s most recognizable Legendary Pokémon, and Evolving Skies gives collectors multiple versions to pursue.

The official card checklist includes:

• Rayquaza V
• Rayquaza VMAX
• Full-art Rayquaza V
• Higher-rarity versions of Rayquaza VMAX

Rayquaza VMAX is listed as 218/203 Rainbow Rare in the official Pokémon card database.

Umbreon VMAX and the Eevee Evolutions

The other major theme of Evolving Skies is the collection of Eevee Evolutions, commonly known as the Eeveelutions.

The set includes V and VMAX cards for several of them, including:

• Leafeon VMAX
• Flareon VMAX
• Vaporeon VMAX
• Glaceon VMAX
• Jolteon VMAX
• Espeon VMAX
• Sylveon VMAX
• Umbreon VMAX

The official checklist confirms these cards and their higher-rarity versions.

Among them, Umbreon VMAX is particularly notable.

Umbreon VMAX has 310 HP and the Ability Dark Signal. When Umbreon VMAX is played from the hand to evolve a Pokémon, Dark Signal allows the player to switch one of the opponent’s Benched Pokémon with their Active Pokémon. Its Max Darkness attack does 160 damage.

Why the Eeveelutions matter

The Eeveelutions make Evolving Skies appealing to collectors beyond competitive play.

Each evolution has its own:

• Pokémon design
• Typing
• Artwork
• V card
• VMAX card
• Higher-rarity versions

For collectors working on an Eeveelution-focused binder, Evolving Skies provides a particularly rich selection.

More Eeveelutions to Collect

Umbreon is only one part of the collection.

Espeon VMAX brings the Psychic-type Eeveelution into the VMAX lineup, while Sylveon VMAX represents the Fairy-inspired evolution in the Sword & Shield card design.

Water, Ice, Fire, Electric, and Grass are represented through Vaporeon, Glaceon, Flareon, Jolteon, and Leafeon.

The official checklist includes multiple versions of these Pokémon, making them important parts of the set’s collecting experience.

For collectors, the appeal is not simply finding one card. It can be about bringing the entire Eeveelution group together.

Dragonite V and Other Dragon Pokémon

Evolving Skies also gives Dragon-type Pokémon a major role.

Dragonite V appears in the set alongside Rayquaza V, Noivern V, Duraludon V, and other Dragon-related Pokémon. The official checklist lists Dragonite V as cards 191/203 and 192/203 in its higher-rarity section.

Dragonite is especially recognizable because of its long history in the Pokémon franchise.

Its presence alongside Rayquaza and other Dragon Pokémon reinforces one of the expansion’s major themes.

Other Notable Pokémon in Evolving Skies

The set goes well beyond its most famous chase cards.

The official card checklist includes Pokémon such as:

• Gyarados VMAX
• Dracozolt VMAX
• Duraludon VMAX
• Trevenant VMAX
• Lycanroc VMAX
• Noivern VMAX
• Sylveon VMAX
• Glaceon VMAX
• Leafeon VMAX
• Jolteon VMAX
• Vaporeon VMAX

For example, Gyarados VMAX has 330 HP and features Max Tyrant for 240 damage.

Dracozolt VMAX has 330 HP and includes Max Impact for 200 damage, alongside the unusual Spark Trap attack.

This variety makes every booster pack potentially relevant to a different collecting goal.

The Evolving Skies Booster Box Card List

The official Evolving Skies Booster Box checklist reaches 203 cards in its primary numbering, followed by additional higher-rarity versions.

The higher-rarity portion includes alternate versions of Pokémon V and other cards, including:

• Leafeon V
• Flareon V
• Vaporeon V
• Glaceon V
• Jolteon V
• Espeon V
• Sylveon V
• Umbreon V
• Rayquaza V
• Dragonite V
• Duraludon V
• Noivern V

Trainer cards also receive higher-rarity treatments, including cards such as Aroma Lady, Copycat, Gordie, Raihan, and Zinnia’s Resolve.

Opening an Evolving Skies Booster Box

Opening a full booster box provides 36 packs from the same expansion.

That creates a different experience from buying a single booster pack.

You can organize the opening around different goals:

Building a collection

Sort cards by number as you open each pack. This makes it easier to track which cards you already have.

Hunting for Eeveelutions

Keep a separate pile for Eevee and its Evolutions. This can become the foundation of an Eeveelution-focused collection.

Looking for Rayquaza cards

Set aside every Rayquaza card you find. You can later organize the cards by rarity.

Building a master set

Use the official card checklist as your reference and mark off every card you pull.

Remember that opening a booster box does not guarantee completion of a set or specific high-rarity cards.

Booster Box vs. Elite Trainer Box

An Evolving Skies Booster Box and an Elite Trainer Box serve different purposes.

A booster box is primarily about quantity of booster packs, while an ETB combines packs with accessories.

Feature	Evolving Skies Booster Box	Evolving Skies ETB
Booster packs	36	8
Featured promo	No	Yes
Card sleeves	No	Yes
Energy cards	No	Yes
Dice	No	Yes
Condition markers	No	Yes
Player’s guide	No	Yes
Storage box	No	Yes

For someone focused on opening packs and collecting cards from the expansion, the booster box provides more packs.

For someone who wants a mixture of packs and gameplay accessories, an ETB offers a different product experience.

Why Collectors Still Look at Evolving Skies Booster Box

The set brings together several collecting themes in one expansion.

You have Eevee Evolutions, Dragon Pokémon, Pokémon V, Pokémon VMAX, full-art cards, and additional high-rarity versions.

The official Pokémon card database confirms that cards such as Umbreon VMAX and Rayquaza VMAX have dedicated higher-rarity versions within the set.

That gives collectors multiple ways to approach the expansion.

One person might focus on every Eeveelution. Another might collect Rayquaza cards. Someone else might try to complete the entire set.

Evolving Skies for Sealed Collectors

The booster box itself is also a recognizable piece of Sword & Shield-era Pokémon TCG packaging.

If keeping the box sealed, proper storage is important.

Keep the box:

• Away from direct sunlight
• In a cool, dry environment
• Away from moisture
• On a stable shelf
• Protected from crushing or excessive pressure
• Away from large temperature changes

The original factory seal and packaging are part of the physical product, so unnecessary handling should be avoided if the goal is to preserve the box.
